Yet another fantastic week for the Cheshunt U8’s! 4 Matches and 4 Wins!!!
Cheshunt Lions and Cheshunt Tigers kicked off simultaneously against BERFC A and B and it didn’t take long for them to get into their stride. There was some excellent play across both matches with tries scored for the Lions from James Smith (4), Joe Sharp (4), Archie Gurney (2) and Sam (Iceman) Dervish (1), and tries for the Tiger from Samuel Gunkel (3), Cameron Manning (2), Thomas Diston (1), Conor McEvity (1), Thomas Street (1), and James Anderson (1).
Final Scores: Cheshunt Lions 11 BERFC A 10, Cheshunt Tigers 9 BERFC B 8.
The teams then swapped opponents and this is when Cheshunt really woke up, with excellent supporting play and some great runs, there were comfortable wins for both teams. Tries scorers for the Tigers were Conor McEvity (3), Samuel Gunkel (3), James Anderson (2), Joe Crump (2) and Thomas Street (1), while for the Lions, Sam (Iceman) Dervish (6), James Smith (5), Joe Sharp (2), Eoin Edwards (1), Archie Gurney (1), and Oliver Staines (1).

The Cheshunt U8’s long awaited fixture with Hertford took place this weekend, travelling to Hertford with two teams, Cheshunt Lions & Cheshunt Tigers. Hertford were able to field four sides, so it was agreed that the Cheshunt sides would play a total of 4 games each.
 Matthew Lawton
The Cheshunt Lions kicked off against Hertford 4th team and despite taking a while to get into their stride, eventually ran out 4-1 winners. Tries scored by Joe Sharp (2), James Smith (1) and Archie Gurney (1)
The Tigers kicked off at the same time against Hertford 5th team and were quickly into their stride winning by 8 –0. Try scores where Malachi Obe (3), Connor McEvity (2) Thomas Diston (1) and James Anderson (1)
The Cheshunt Lions & Tigers then swapped opposition with both teams winning their games. The Lions ran out 9-1 winners, tries by Archie Gurney (3), Joe Sharp (3), Nicholas Dean (1), Cameron Manning (1) and Eion Edwards (1). The Tigers were 8-1 winners with tries from Samual Gunkel (2), Oliver Staines (2), James Anderson (1), Malachi Obe (1), Mackenzie Obe (1) and Connor McEvity (1).
The Lions were then matched against Hertford 1st team and the Tigers against the 2nd team.
The Lions stepped up a gear and facing a very well drilled Hertford side defended like the Lions they are. Hitting Hertford with power and pace, they snatched the winning try in the last moments to run out 6-5 victors. Try scores were Archie Gurney (2), Jack Staines (1), Eion Edwards (1), James Smith (1) and Joe Sharp (1)
The Tigers playing Hertford 2nd team had a very close game and fought like tigers, holding on to a 2-2 draw. Try scores were James Anderson (1) and Oliver Staines (1).
Again opposition was swapped and now the extra games played by Cheshunt took its toll. The Lions took the Hertford 2nd team to the wire, but tired legs and dropped passes handed the game to a very good Hertford side who ran out winners 6-5. Try scores for the Lions were Archie Gurney (3), Cameron Manning (1) and Sam Dervish (1).
The same can be said for the Tigers who were playing Hertford 1st team, while playing some great Rugby, tired legs and missed opportunities gave another very good Hertford side a 7-5 win. Try scores for Cheshunt were Samuel Gunkel (2), Malachi Obe (2) and Mathew Lawton (1).
The final tally: Played 8, won 5, drew 1, lost 2. Come on you green and whites!

Cheshunt Rugby Club’s youngsters had a great start to their season at the Barnet Festival on Sunday 26th Sept. with the Under 8s, Under 9s and Under 12s all winning their age group tournaments in convincing style.
 Under 9's Barnet Festival
For Cheshunts U9′s, it was the first time that they had taken part in any contact games. Anxious parents stood and watched on the side line as they took on Finchley A team in their opening game. The anxieties soon turned to elation as the tries were scored with Cheshunt running out 25 – 0 winners. The next 2 games saw Cheshunt victorious against Ches Valley and then Finchley B team. Cheshunt’s final match saw them take on an unbeaten Welwyn side. After conceding the 1st try Cheshunt turned up the heat running in 4 unanswered tries and remaining unbeaten scoring a total 17 tries and conceding only 2.
Despite the wet & windy rugby, Cheshunt Under 12s managed to play some very exciting, flowing, attacking rugby & always defended courageously. In their first match against Finchley, the Cheshunt forwards took the game to the opposition, winning most of the loose ball and putting their opponents on the back foot. This resulted in a lot of ball for the backs and it was only some good defensive work that kept the score down to 7-0 to Cheshunt at half time. The game followed the same pattern in the 2nd half with Cheshunt getting a second score to win 14 – 0.
The next two games saw wins against Chess Valley and Barnet which left a deciding game to play against Welwyn. Once again a very strong Cheshunt pack produced good ball for the backs who ran

everything and soon opened up a 14-0 lead. As the weather deteriorated the heads of the opposition went down, but not those of the Cheshunt players who continued to press and scored tries from all areas of the pitch. The final score was 35-0 to Cheshunt.
The whole squad deserve credit for a truely remarkable team performance!
After a slow start against Finchley Under 8′s with the score at 20-5 against them, Cheshunt came back on the field in the second half a different team and fought hard to gain a 35-35 draw. Cheshunt really picked up their game in their second match, beating Chess Valley a comfortable 55-40.
The third match, against the host side, was a little more difficult. Once again being down by 20-5 at half time, a strong team spirit prevailed and Cheshunt recovered to record a 35-20 victory over Barnet. The final match was against Welwyn and Cheshunt’s fast pace assured a 35- 20 win.
There was some excellent play across all matches with scores from Joe Sharp, Conor McEvity, Archie Gurney, Samuel Dervish, Nicholas Dean and Archie Stella.

Has your owner left you in a dark cupboard or out in the cold unloved and in need of a good run out? Well let your owners know there is a place for you and that place is Cheshunt Rugby Club. If you would like your boots to reach their retirement age then please donate them to the kit shop. Here they will be able to find a good home and once again enjoy wallowing in the mud.
If you wish to donate your boots then please bring them to the kit shop, making sure they are looking their best. Your boots will then be priced according to condition and all money made will go back into improving the club.
