Happy New Year All, Senior training is back on from Tuesday 4th January.

Message from Piggsy,

Hope everyone had a good christmas and new year.

Due to the weather and Christmas we have not seen much of each other over the last month so hear is a quick reminder of whats going on.

We have a live Irish band on this Saturday £10.00/per ticket. 10% cash for people/team who sell more than 10 tickets. so get on the phone and e-mails to friends and push this. Also there is Grand Virgin Tourist auction on the same night.  See me, Matt Corchoron or behind the bar for tickets.

Tourists also need to sort out the balance of the tour money, details are in your envelope behind the bar.. I advise you not to have Steve H and Dave chase you as I am sure this will work out more expensive.

We have had a good response to membership this year so well done to all that have paid. Those that haven’t I will be on your case. You will be named and shamed at the end of the month. You have been warned !!!!!

Well done Adam for organising the Under 23′s last week. Another well supported success.

I hope to see most of you after training tomorrow.

Steve Briggs
President

There is a great Saracens coaching course coming up on th 18th January.  Skill Jazz with Faz, it’s your chance to see the new Saracens coach in action.  Details of how to enroll and pay are here

Not much rugby news this week as most of the fixtures have been cancelled.

There is an Irish Band and Disco on Saturday 8th January 2011 to raise money for the club.  Tickets will be £10 from behind the bar or online.  This is a whole club event, Seniors, Juniors & Minis, so please do your best to attend.

For a bit of fun, well for some of us anyway, during the break in the band’s set we will be auctioning off the tour virgin’s to their tour mentors/owners.  So if you want to see the likes of Mark Lennon, Tony Owen, Darren Masters, Dean Battams, Jack Jaggs, Spencer Linsell, Reece Shoobridge, Ben Burgess, Heinzy, Hodgo and Paul Duligall find out their fate then get yourself down to see them try and sell themselves to people who may be nice to them!  I’m sure a few scores will be settled here.

As an added incentive each age group or tourist that sells 10 tickets will receive 10% of the value as commission to the relevant cause.  You can also buy tickets online here, remember to enter where the commission is to go.

CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA

Why not treat your loved one or this Christmas to some pampering in the comfort of your own home. Nothing will show you care more than giving them a Gift Voucher which they can then use to book a session whenever is convenient to them. Choose from a range of relaxing massages or beauty treatments.

To BUY your gift voucher simply contact Sue (VTCT qualified Holistic therapist) CLICK HERE to request voucher.

Make sure you say you are from Cheshunt Rugby Club when purchasing as the club will get a commission from sales.

Poker Fund Raising

If any age groups would like to raise money by organising a poker night then reply to this email.  The club now has 3 poker tables, cards and chips and can organise tournaments with up to 30 players.  It’s a very good way to make a load of money for your team.  We can do various tournaments and options or you can just book the equipment and organise your own evening.

Referee Course

There is a referee course that will be run at Hertford Rugby Club on 4 consectutive Mondays, 7:15pm to 9:45pm from 21st February 2011.

Running a bit behind this week so it’s a day late.

There is another Saracens coaching evening on Tuesday 7th December, Kicking – Game Changin & Tactic defining. We don’t have any more details yet but they will be posted on the website once Nicky has received them.

Be aware that there is no Senior training planned for Thursday 18th November to help preserve the pitches, so get yourselves down the gym instead. If you’re not going to the gym try and persuade some family or friends to come to the pre-match lunch on the 4th or get them to use http://www.buy.at/CheshuntRugbyStore for their Christmas shopping. Seriously, if you are buying anything from stores such as Play.com, Game or even just getting your office to buy their supplies from Euroffice using our link or maybe all of the British Gas customers out there could change to E-On to avoid the 7% rise in prices. With any of these you will be helping the club raise funds from money you’re spending anyway.

There will be a Poker Night at the Club on Friday 26th November, 7pm for 7:30pm start. Seats are limited so reserve your place on the event page here. Also if an other age groups would like to raise funds by having a poker evening then reply to this email and I’ll explain how you go about using the tables, we can also run the evening for you so all you have to do is get the players in.

Teddington U16 34 – 29 Cheshunt U16 – 7th November, 2010 (By Jim Stanger) – pictures from last week will be on the web site soon, keep checking.

Sunday saw Cheshunt travel all the way to Teddington RFC for their 2nd League fixture of the season. Once again with only a limited squad size fitness would need to count.

Even with a late KO Cheshunt seemed totally asleep and within minutes found themselves on the wrong end of 17 points. With tempers already starting to rise, this didn’t look like it was going to be a good day for C’s.

Quite soon into the match Teddington realized that their forwards were no match for Cheshunt’s pack and gave their team very clear instructions to keep the ball away from C’s pack and use their backs, which they did to great effect. Running in a further try before half time. To lead 24 – 0.

Through out the match both sides gave away numerous penalties, with Ryan consistently kicking to touch to make good ground. As soon as the opportunity arose for an attempt at the posts Ryan stepped forward and converted for 3 points. At this point the tide started to turn and Cheshunt continued to apply pressure. Finally during an attack Connor broke thru Teddington’s defence and managed to get into the oppositions 22m before off loading to Charlie who ran the ball under the posts to score his 1st try for Cheshunt (well done!) and C’s 1st of the match. Ryan stepped forward and successfully converted for a further 2 points. Cheshunt didn’t stop there and even with Teddington making numerous substitutions Cheshunt continued to apply the pressure and a fantastic piece of play by Cheshunt’s pack saw C’s big man “Z” carry the ball over the line to score his 1st try for Cheshunt (well done!) and C’s 2nd of the day. Darius made some great power runs both down the center of the pitch and down the side lines, continually putting Teddington under pressure

Not to be outdone Cheshunt’s Captain – Connor joined in on the action and scored Cheshunt’s 3rd try of the match with one of his trademark interceptions, with Ryan still kicking sweetly for the conversions Cheshunt’s score line started to improve. Sadly a quick lack of concentration saw Teddington score an easy try. Not to be outdone Cheshunt came straight back and with yet another sneaky piece of play from Connor saw him run in his 2nd try of the match and C’s 4th (bonus point)

Sadly time ran out for Cheshunt & the referee blew his whistle for full time to end the score line at 34 -29 to Teddington.

From a coaches point it’s really great to see Cheshunt U16’s improving by leaps & bounds each game, with all players in the team giving 100%

Line Up: Darius, Aaron, Z, Joe, Duncan, Antony, Reece, Jed, Connor (C), Ryan, Jordan, Daragh, Alex, Charlie, Cameron, Robert

Cheshunt U13 v Bank of England U13 – 17th October, 2010 (By I’ve no idea and couldn’t work out the score)

Our 2nd league match of the season and players and fans alike were hoping for a better performance than the one against the Bank of England in the friendly two weeks previous. Sadly, our hopes were soon dashed when within a short space of time Barnet scored their first try and a conversion swiftly followed and as usual there had been some questionable refereeing decisions for us all to quibble over (Michael’s dad David went so far as to get his trusty rule book out!). A slight uneasiness and feeling of deja vu set in over the home crowd.

But our concerns were short-lived; the boys woke up and before long, young Mitchell ‘Lanky’ Cole was thundering down the pitch to level the score. Barnet quickly scored another try in reply but again the boys bounced back and this time it was Ben Larwill who scored. Promising stuff but those early lapses in concentration had cost us tries. Scores were level at 12-12 at the half time break.

However, following what must have been a sterling team talk by coach Mark ‘Snowy’ Lennon (“You’d better win this game or you’re all dropped and I’ll replace you with a bunch of girls” or something along those lines) the boys came out with renewed vigour. Suddenly, Cheshunt were on the rampage and Lanky, Frankie “Frank the Tank’ Sanniti and James ‘Jiffy’ Lennon added to their side’s tally.

Then, Jiffy made a searching kick across the pitch which bounced kindly for Josh ‘Bush Boy’ Rudling who had no trouble in skipping most of the length of the pitch evading tacklers as he went to score yet another try for Cheshunt. His mother had gone to the clubhouse at half time and came back just in time to see his try and couldn’t believe that it was already Cheshunt’s 4th try in the 2nd half.

To their credit Barnet did not give up (take note Cheshunt!) and kept the pressure on. Their tenacity was rewarded in the dying minutes as one of their boys went over in the corner to pull one back despite being tackled into the corner flag by Josh (who by the way thinks the linesman that said it was a try, a certain Mr D Masters, needs glasses).

The boys looked pleased after their first victory but afterwards seemed more interested in talking about the communal bath they’d all had (in their underpants!). Tony really shouldn’t have told some of the mums that the water isn’t changed after each team has been in it. But, never mind the game, our boys were most pleased about winning the boat race against Barnet. Standing on chairs, downing a fizzy drink in as few gulps as possible and spilling most of it down your clothes. What’s not to love, eh boys?

Thankfully, they were only drinking lemonade but all the women watching know it’s an ugly, slippery slope down to becoming a beer monster in years to come!

Herts Under 18′s at Cheshunt

Cheshunt RFC hosts the only home fixture for Hertfordshire U18’s this season, as they welcome Eastern Counties in the final London Division game at Andrews Lane. The game kicks off at 2pm this Sunday 31st October.

Players are selected from these games for the London and South East Division team to play The North, The Midlands and The South West in the New Year and that leads to selection for England U18’s for the very best players.

With academy players from Saracens and Leicester in the respective squads, the game will be a competitive advert for youth rugby and with 2 Cheshunt players in the Herts side there should be plenty of local interest as well.

Cheshunt Under 15′s Update (By Gary Cansick)

The U15’s kicked off the season with an away league match at Finchley where we witnessed what was probably the finest team performance to date, winning 31-3.  Early days we know, but this places us second in League 2 at the moment based on points difference with the top three teams all on equal points. We have Tring above us and Hitchin third, who we meet in our next league match in November.

Also would like to mention that I am proud to report that, following the recent trials, we have five boys in the U15 Herts County training squad.  Quite an achievement given the quality we saw, the strength of the clubs sending boys along and the odds when nearly 140 trial for an anticipated 35 man squad.

Very well done to all 5, and the squad generally.

Message from Steve Waller

Can all coaches and captains please make sure that flags and post protectors are put back in the container after matches.  The groundsman has spent some time this week fishing them out of the stream.

A Gents watch was found next to the training pitch.  It has a black face & strap.  Please see Steve Waller

Not many match reports this week but there are 2 events from Saracens to have a look at.  The Rugby Camps come highly recommended for the kids to have some fun and learn a load of new stuff and going along to listen to Cobus Visage talk about front row play is a must for the Coaches and Front Row players who want to pick up some bits.

I’ve finally got the Galleries running on the website.  Seniors here, Juniors here and Mini’s here.  They’ll also appear under your team in the menu bar as more images are loaded up along with recent albums on the right side bar.  I’ve only loaded the ones I took the other weekend but if you send your images to news@cheshuntrugby.co.uk I’ll get them loaded up.
