U10s v Tabard 06.12.15
No Lack of Effort!!!
These reports always seem to start with a weather report, so I am pleased to say that the weather was once again kind to the team on Sunday as the boys travelled to play Tabard in deepest Hertfordshire. The rain held off and it was unusually warm for a December Sunday morning. If only the results were as pleasant as the weather.
As Tabard only had twelve players available, Cheshunt had to field a team with experienced and new players, so that everyone got the chance to play a half in each of the two games.
Things started pretty bad for Cheshunt in the first match, with Tabard scoring at ease to lead 7-0 at half time. Still not sure how we were 7-0 down based on the way we have played so far this year, but Tabard played well and our tackles just didn’t stick for once. With Cheshunt playing down the slope in the second half, we improved a little, but we only managed the one try from Tevin to show for the hard work the boys put in. Cheshunt finally went down 10-1.
In the second game, Cheshunt started to play like we knew they could and finished the first half 4-2 ahead, with two tries from a resurgent Chris, one from Finley and another from Morgan. However, playing back up the slope in the second half and with some tough decisions going against us meant that the score ended up 9-4 to Tabard.
So two defeats, but more importantly there was no lack of effort from the players, who can all walk away with their heads held high. Tabard played well, but we all know that we are better than we showed this week and we will be working hard to get a positive result next Sunday just before the Christmas break and of course the Cheshunt Christmas party!!
Man of the match went to Chris not only for his two tries, but also for his hard tackling and strong runs against a good Tabard team. It was great to see Chris back to his best.
Mistake of the match went to Jack G for giving three cheers to Barnet even though we were playing Tabard!!
