Cheshunt 33 - Watford 0
Fantastic Start to the Season!!!
On our first game of the season we turned up at Watford with excellent rugby conditions. We had a total of 16 players, with two new comers (Conor and Callum), and a new position on the pitch, No. 8. With several players starting in new positions we lined for the first game of two, the boys opened the game like they had been playing all year, putting in strong tackles and rucking Watford off the ball. After some excellent strong play from the forwards Thomas S broke through and charged for the line to open the scoring and with Ollie kicking an excellent conversion.
With one score on the board and the pack winning every scrum, and showing their power it was not long before Thomas S scored his second. All the boys wanted the ball now, playing some great rugby with the forwards winning the ball and releasing the backs to make some great ground. Matt at scrum half was looking lively with the ball in hand, with the domination of the pack and the quick ball skills from Matt, this set Thomas up for his hat trick. Half time was fast approaching, and with some excellent scrums from forwards, Mc Mc, Mal, Scott, Thomas S Joe and Nicholas, Thomas S managed to score another before the whistle.
In the second half Kallum started his first game with Cameron in the front row, and with the addition of Thomas D to the second row, forwards showed their power. In the back row there was also plenty of action, with Aston, Eoin, Conor, James and Kenny putting in strong runs, we were on the front foot. With a ruck 10 metres out the forwards won and secured the ball allowing Matt to pick up at the base and score. The final score of the game was 33-0, Thomas S 4 tries, Matt 1 try and Ollie 4 conversions.
After a short break we were into the second game and Watford came out a more determined team, putting in some strong tackles and runs which resulted in the first half ending all square at nil nil. Watford made a break for it and would have opened the scoring if not for the tackle of the day by Kenny, who tracked across the pitch and stop the Watford player in his tracks. As the half went on it was Watford that opened the scoring from some great play from their whole team, but this just seem to wake the Cheshunt boys up. With a quick turnaround they got the ball up the pitch to within 10 metres of the line, Joe picked up the ball from the base of the ruck and with three players trying to stop him scored. It was all square, the boys dug in and the ball was worked up the pitch, with some more good play from the forwards this allowed Matt to get the ball to Ollie and his quick hands down the line to Aston, who powered home a excellent try and then converted it himself. The final result 14-7, Joe 1 try, Aston 1 try + conversion and Ollie 1 conversion.
Any excellent start to the season, well done boys!
