Farewell Note
After 15 incredible years as club captain, and being a proud member of Cheshunt Rugby Club since the age of 15, the time has come for me to pass on the captaincy. This role has been an immense honor and a defining part of my life, but I feel it is the perfect moment to allow someone fresh to bring new energy and ideas to the position.
The club captaincy is a position that was created 15 years ago during a tie vote for 1stXV captain, a position that i took having conceded the 1stxv captaincy tie and a position that really was the start for me to see the club outside of my team, Club Captaincy had no defined agenda other than the basis of the position which was to represent all sections of the club to bring together senior, juniors and minis.
This captaincy opportunity lined up perfectly with my life mantra which is that with everything else it has to be fun. Even the chasing of senior membership payments and addressing the very rare complaints have still been fun and it always will be for a club I love very much as do all the members.
I will continue as minis secretary whilst offering the new club captain any support they need. Thank you all very much for the support you have given me during this tender.
Introducing your new club captain
It was an obvious choice for me to ask Reece Shoobridge to take on this responsibility. Reece has always been a passionate advocate for the club and a shining example of the values we hold dear. I still remember playing alongside him in the 1st XV when he first broke into the team as a young junior. His natural talent and great hair was clear from the start.
There was a moment when I wondered if Reece might move on to higher-ranking clubs, but early on, he expressed a deep commitment and love for Cheshunt. It became clear that we had him for life, and that’s something truly special.
Reece embodies what can happen when you give a young player the freedom to express themselves and develop without being boxed in by constraints. Cheshunt has produced many talented players who have gone on to reach international levels, and Reece stands out as one of my favourites. If you wanted to introduce someone to Cheshunt Rugby Club, you would want to introduce them to Reece—he radiates good vibes and is always with a smile.
I am confident that under his leadership, the club will continue to grow stronger together and uphold the spirit we all cherish.
Thank you all for the memories, the challenges, and the triumphs over these years. I look forward to supporting Reece and the club in this next chapter.
Yours in rugby,
Omid Amani
