On a bitterly cold afternoon, an injury hit Cheshunt 1st XV prepared to take on current league leaders Twickenham RFC.
From the off Twickenham showed why they are league leader, by scoring a well Try in the first 3 minutes. Twickenham's lively scrum half took the ball from the back of the scrum just within their half, managing to evade decent pressure from Scrum half Brad Ewing, raced up the middle of the pitch. 2 more missed tackle then fed the supporting centre on his outside. A crunching tackle by stand in full back Adam Chantler stopped the centre dead in his tracks but not before off loading to support to score Twickenham's first try to the right of the posts. Conversion was good.
Cheshunt's forwards were outstanding, matching a well drilled and mobile Twickenham pack time and time again. Competition in the scrum and defence in and around the ruck was fierce often resulting in turnover ball for Cheshunt.
Twickenham were able to score 2 more Tries and 1 penalty before half time.
The second half was more of the same. Twickenham attacking wave after wave and Cheshunt putting up an impressive defence. It was only down to the odd mistake by Cheshunt and superior conditioning of Twickenham which lead to 2 more Tries in the second half.
Cheshunt came close to scoring once or twice but fell short due handling errors.
This was by no means an easy victory for a very good Twickenham side. Despite the score line there were some spirited performances from Cheshunt against a well drilled and technically adept side in particular Sean Donnelly, Matt Corcoran and Adam Chantler.
