Same thing for breakfast next week Mum and Dad!!!

Despite a disappointing result for England the night before, the Cheshunt U10’s were full of energy to kick off their season with an opening fixture at home, to Enfield Ignatians RFC on Sunday 4th October.

The sun was shining as the team lined up for their ‘official’ team photo, where they welcomed four new players for their debut in the green and white of Cheshunt. A warm welcome from the U10’s team and the Cheshunt rugby family goes to Woody, Morgan, Freddie, Josh and their families.

In game one, Cheshunt quickly opened up a 2-0 lead with a season opening try for Tevin and a debut try for Woody with a quick run through the Enfield defence. A clever dummy pass by Tommy enabled him to fool the Enfield team and run in Cheshunt’s third, before Finley added a fourth try with one of his trade mark runs. Enfield got the score back to 4-2 before Bradley scored his first Cheshunt try, charging through pack to get to the try line. Enfield did score one further try, but with Cheshunt holding firm and some strong tackling from Callum, Jack B and Jake M to name a few, Cheshunt came out the winners 5-3.

Game two was a much tighter match with Enfield really pushing Cheshunt hard. Cheshunt did take the lead with a strong run and try from Jake D, then Tevin made it 2-0 bursting through the Enfield defence. Enfield pulled a try back to make it 2-1 before Jack G scored a try with a jinky run to make it 3-1. Enfield again came back strong to make it 3-2, but Cheshunt were able to show a strong defence with big tackles again coming from Callum and good rucking and determination shown by Bobby and Chris to win Cheshunt the ball back. The great teamwork shown by all was enough for Cheshunt to hold on and come away with a 3-2 win.

Match three and with the sun still shining and morning heating up, the boys showed no signs of tiredness, despite going 1-0 down, they really dominated the game. Jake D got Cheshunt back level with his second try of the day, before Josh put Cheshunt 2-1 up with a strong run away from the Enfield defence to score a debut try. Another debutant try scored when Morgan showing pace and strength got Cheshunt’s third try. Finally, with his second try of the day and Cheshunt’s fourth the captain Tommy scored. The final score was 4-1 to Cheshunt to record a clean sweep of wins on their opening fixture.

The first man of the match award was given to Tommy for leading the team to three wins, scoring two tries and showing a captain’s attitude and work rate.

The second man of the match award was given to Callum, who was within inches of scoring a try in the first game, but more impressively was tackling player after player of all shapes and sizes, helping to halt any Enfield advance in every game. The same thing for breakfast for the next game please Mum and Dad!!!
