Winners 2 of 2

With three wins from three from our opening game of the season, confidence was high for the team as we headed to a sunny Epping for our second game of the season.

Even before the match had started, the green and white shirts of the Cheshunt U10’s were clearly visible, with two new players making their debut. A very warm welcome goes to Konrad, Will and their families.

GAME 1
The boys started bright and were soon 1-0 ahead thanks to a fantastic driving run from Tevin. The boys were playing well and a few minutes later Tevin received the ball again, managed to shake off some Epping Upper Clapton (EUCRFC) tackles to get over the line and make it 2-0. Just before half time, Morgan used his pace to run away from the half way line and make it 3-0.

In the second half despite some awesome defending on the goal line by Tommy, Bradley and Woody who worked hard to hold back the attacking players, EUCRFC managed to pull a try back to make it 3-1. However, the boys soon made it 4-1 thanks to a great run from Finley. Who then cheekily nabbed another try late on to make the final score 5-1.

GAME 2
Just like last week, the second game was a much closer match with EUCRFC taking a 1-0 lead. Jack B thought he had levelled the score, but the try was unfortunately ruled out because of an earlier knock on by the team. Undeterred the boys carried on and with big tackles from Callum and Jack G, and great rucking from Jake M. We were soon level again when Morgan scored his second try of the day to make the scores 1-1 at half time.

In the second half Josh made it 2-1 to score for the second week running, but EUCRFC would not lay down and fought back making it 2-2. The teams were well matched and Jake D picked a great pass to Bobby who opened his legs and with a strong run scored a cracking try. Once again EUPRFC refused to roll over and pulled the scored back to 3-3 with only minutes remaining. The boys pulled together and worked hard to win the ball back, at virtually the last play of the game the ball broke to Bobby who again used his pace and determination to score and made it 4-3 to Cheshunt.

So with five wins from five games, and a 100% start to the season, the boys head to Stevenage on Sunday to try and keep this awesome run going.

Player of the day trophy’s were awarded to Jake D for strong play in the pack and also great awareness of the players around him and unselfish play to set up a try, and to Jake M for excellent and brave rucking over against some big lads from EUCRFC, and constantly winning the ball back for his team.

Finally, a final special mention must also go to Will and Konrad for making excellent debuts. Both players really got involved in the game and made a big contribution to the two wins.
