Can this winning streak continue??

With the weather once again being very kind (if the truth be told that is to the parents!!), the boys travelled to Stevenage on Sunday to try and carry on their 100% start to the season. It was very different conditions to last year, when the match had to be called off after just one game. I can still see the boys sprinting across the field to take shelter in the clubhouse as the freezing rain poured down!

Match 1 - Cheshunt started strongly and were quickly 2-0 up thanks to tries by Morgan and Tevin. We managed to keep up the good play for the rest of the half and kept the score to 2-0 at half time. After the break, Woody picked out a nice pass for Tommy to run down the right wing and score a try to make it 3-0. Cheshunt worked hard to stop any Stevenage come back with Tevin in particular rucking the ball back when it was there to be won. With Cheshunt running the game, Tommy got the ball from Chris to run away from the chasing Stevenage team to make the final score 4-0.

As in previous weeks match 2 was the closer game, Stevenage were keen to reverse the result from match one, and with determination they took a deserved 1-0 lead. This try seemed to kick Cheshunt into life and they soon equalised after Jack G pounced on a lose ball to win back possession, with a quick pass to Morgan he ran in the try. Finley then added another try to make it 2-1 before Callum scored his first try for Cheshunt with a fantastic driving run. It was great to see not only the smile on his face and his celebration, but also how all of the boys celebrated with him (true Cheshunt team spirit!!!). Finley then made it 4-1 before Stevenage pulled a try back to make it 4-2. The boys continued to contest every challenge and work hard to stop Stevenage and as the game drew to a close. Tommy made a break and scored just before the whistle to make it 5-2.

In the final game, Cheshunt again took the lead early, with Bobby winning the ball and Morgan scoring the opening try. With Cheshunt leading, Bradley drove forward and despite being tackled the ball made its way to Jake D who scored a try to make it 2-0. Woody then rolled in Cheshunt’s third try with another good strong run. Freddie and Konrad did really well getting to grips with the game in the middle of the pitch and Jake M came close a couple of times to scoring his opening try of the season, but was denied on the line. Soon Cheshunt did score again though when Finley made it 4-0. With time running out, Woody again got away from the defence to drive into the corner and score Cheshunt’s fifth try. Final Score 5-0.

The player of the day trophies were awarded to Konrad for some great tackles in only his second game and to Woody for an all round display of tackling, passing and try scoring.

So with eight wins from eight games and the U10’s maintaining their 100% start to the season, the boys will be working hard on their passing, rucking and tackling this week in training. The big question is can they keep the run going when they travel away to Letchworth in two weeks time?
