V is for victory and also the roman numeral for the number 5.... how significant as this squad have now won the Barnet Festival consecutively for the last 5 years!!

As the sun broke through the cloud to take the chill off of the morning, so the team started to warm up as well. It was a slow start to the morning with kick off times delayed by over half an hour, but the team took every opportunity to practice their moves and get used to the playing surface.
With the first kick off came the roar of the might supporters, and the season proper was under way!!
First game against Chess Valley saw James Smith run in his first competitive try of the season, unfortunately James Anderson didn’t quite manage the conversion, but that was the only kick of the tournament that he missed, with a further try from James Smith converted by James Anderson Cheshunt ran in winners. First game down without conceding a point... we couldn't yet begin to hope that this would be a repeat of 2012. Just a few minutes rest and onto the second game.... Welwyn stepped up with a mix of players loaned to them by another team and they did their very best to come together as a squad, However Cheshunt had had a taste of being the winners and obviously wanted more. James Smith ran in another 2 tries, with fantastic conversions from James A and a 3rd try in the second half from Matt Lawton once again converted by James A meant another victory and once again no points conceded. But the next game was going to be the crunch game - Barnet on their home turf. They looked fired up and ready for a real stinger of a game, and they were fierce on their defence and their attacking play, but not fierce enough to keep the team away from the try line. With 2 exceptional tries from James Smith as a result of some excellent team work, brilliant reading of the game by all on the field and some really good communication. 2 further conversions from James Anderson - left the spectators routing around in the trees once again to find all of the balls!!
The final game and the parents were on edge..... the lads however were so fired up that they could have taken on any squad in the county. Luke Soldano came into his element in this game, made some exceptional tackles and ran in the first try of the game, we were on the scoreboard and no-one was going to get in their way of a victory. James Anderson slotted the ball over again.....and again after Matt ran in his second try of the festival. Chesham put up a good fight and came close to the Cheshunt try line, but there was no way that any of the forwards were going to miss a tackle at this point of the game, and with a further try from Luke, once again converted by James A Cheshunt could taste the victory. The final push of the game saw the first of the forwards scoring a try in this season, Aston Bush ran in a very well deserved try using the power of a forward and combining it with the speed and agility of a back. The final conversion of the day saw James Anderson stamp hi mark very clearly on the game. The cheers of players and spectators alike could have been heard back in Cheshunt!!
