Long may the good weather continue on a Sunday morning.

This Sunday saw us play our first home game of the season against Stevenage. Having been spared any long downpours during the week, the pitches were in excellent condition and once again the weather was generous. Long may the good weather continue on a Sunday morning.

The game format for this week was two matches of 15 minutes each way, giving all of our players the best chance to play as much rugby as possible.

In game one, Cheshunt started really well with some excellent passing and interplay and were some 1-0 up with Konrad running in our first try. Cheshunt soon scored again with Josh using his pace to get away from the Stevenage team to score our second try. Tevin then added another try with a trade mark run showing power and strength, before Josh added another to make it 4-0 at half time. In the second half Stevenage stepped up a level and through some good defence and closing down pulled a try back to make it 4-1. Cheshunt continued pushing to try and extend their lead but just couldn’t make the final pass to score again. Game 1 final score – Cheshunt win 4-1.

In game two Cheshunt again started brightly and were soon one nil up with a try scored by Jack G. Some great play between Jack G and Morgan set up our second try with Jack G again scoring the try, but largely thanks to some generous team play from Morgan passing the ball to Jack when he could have easily scored himself. Woody then used his power and strength to drive through on the line and score the third try to make it 3-0 at half-time. Cheshunt continues to push hard in the second half with Tevin scoring his second try of the day, closely followed by another try from Josh. Konrad completed the scoring with a great run to make it 6-0 to Cheshunt. Game 2 final score – Cheshunt win 6-0. So another successful week for the U11’s with ten tries scored and just one conceded.

Moving on to the man of the match award, and also some news on a new weekly award!!

The man of the match went to a player this week that showed excellent attacking runs, strong defending, unselfish play and great awareness of other players around him. The winner this week was Morgan - well done Morgan.

From our next match away to Watford on the 6th November, we are going to introduce a parents and supporters player of the day award, which will be presented after each game by Simon in addition to the overall man of the match. This award will be voted for during the game by the Cheshunt parents and supports, and the winner is not necessarily the man of match, but will be the player that shows all of the qualities that Mums, Dads, Nans, Grandads, Aunts, Uncles e.t.c. want to see the players show. The winner will receive a trophy for the week, but will also be presented with a small prize. The prize will be different each week and will be very much dependent on what shops I happen to pass during the week. Keep your eye out for the first winner in the next match report!

It will be training this Sunday, so if any one knows any friends/ family that would like to give rugby a try, it’s a great opportunity for them to come along to a training session and see what rugby is all about. Please spread the word.

Have a great week all.
Neil
