And a big welcome to Freddie and his family.

An away game and a local derby with our neighbours Hertford was the fixture for Sunday’s game. Thanks to a new player making his debut this week, Cheshunt had enough players to field two teams (18 players), whilst Hertford had enough players to make four teams. So with no substitutes, there was going to be plenty of rugby for the Cheshunt boys to play this week, whereas Hertford would have the luxury of rolling subs and resting players…..we do like to do things the hard way!!

Before getting into the match report, firstly and most importantly the team would like to give a big Cheshunt welcome to our new player Freddie and his family. Welcome Freddie, I am sure you are going to be a big asset to the team. You definitely seemed to play with a smile on your face this week, so I hope you carry on enjoying your rugby.

For the games our coaches decided to mix the two teams evenly, so both team had a mix of newer players and experience. The Cheshunt Sharks and the Cheshunt Lions !!

In the first round of games, the Cheshunt Sharks completely outplayed Hertford coming in with a comprehensive 3-0 win, thanks to brave tackling, excellent passing, a great work rate and most important of all team work from every player. The Cheshunt Sharks also fought hard and came out winners 4-3 in a close game.

In the second round of games, the Cheshunt Sharks again beat Hertford 3-0, although the Cheshunt Sharks narrowly lost 3-2.In the third round of games, the Cheshunt Sharks beat Hertford 5-1, but unfortunately the Cheshunt Sharks went down 6-0. In the final games, both Cheshunt teams narrowly lost, but by this time the boys had played over an hour of hard fought rugby, so were looking tired against a Hertford side that had been able to rotate and rest players all through the matches. So the final scored were 4 games each to Cheshunt and Hertford.

As for the try scorers, it was great to once again see a number of players getting a try: Morgan, Tevin, Jake D, Jack G, Konrad, Woody & Chris to name a few (I know I have missed some scorers, so apologies to those that also scored). A special mention must also go to our debutant Freddie, scoring a try on his debut. Really well played Freddie.

The man of the match for this week came from the Cheshunt Sharks team and went to player that was everywhere on the pitch. Big tackles, strong driving running, good passing, a couple of tries and pace that his athletics coach would have been proud of. This week’s man of the match went to Jake D. Very well deserved Jake, you had a great game.

Because the teams were split across the pitches this week, there is no supporter’s player of the week award as planned. The boys are at home to Barnet next week, so I will try and introduce the new award for them.

Have a great week everyone.

Neil
