Fortunately the ‘real’ rain held off for the players and spectators

Cheshunt RFC welcomed Barnet this week for only our second home game of the season. Thanks to the overnight rain, the pitches were perfect for rugby and fortunately the ‘real’ rain held off for the players and spectators.

Once again we had a new player making his debut this week, with Alfie becoming the latest player to join the Cheshunt rugby family. A warm welcomes from the players and parents of Cheshunt RFC goes to Alfie and his family.

Despite a couple of new players joining us over the last two weeks, we would again be playing against a Barnet team without the luxury of substitutes or being able to roll players on and off, with our boys playing every minute of the games in conditions that would be very tiring on the legs. A tough morning, but on the positive side the boys would be playing loads of rugby, which is what it’s all about!!!

The teams were again mixed up, with the boys playing games at the same time next to each other on two pitches. What that basically translates to, is that I have struggled to keep a track of the scores this week, the try scorers and some of the great play!!! What I can say is that we won a game, drew a game and lost three games.

So two man of the match awards this week, which went to Freddie and debutant Alfie.

Freddie put in a strong performance through all of his games, running in another try in the last game. Alfie showed great strength and determination and from what I saw, he is going to be a player that will really enjoy the tackling side of rugby, stopping players of all sizes!! Well played boys, you both look like you have been playing rugby much longer than a couple weeks and really deserved your awards.

There is still no parent/supporters award, which I think we will only do in matches where the boys are playing together.

A reminder to everyone that we are looking for volunteers to help arrange this year’s Christmas party. Please contact Nikki Dean if you can help out.

Also, don’t forget to let me know if you want to come to Saracens on Christmas Eve. It’s open to everyone so why not get friends and family off the sofa ahead of three days of over indulgence!!!

There’s no game this week, so it will be training on Sunday. Have a great week all.

Neil
